Unfortunately, a past competitor at the Dakine Weymouth Speed Week for many years lost his battle to cancer and passed away last month.  David Tuttlebee was the founder, chairman and the inspiration behind Windsurfers 4 Cancer Research (W4CR.)

The charity is only a year and a half old and obviously has strong connections to the Speed Week in Weymouth. Thanks to committed ambassadors such as bronze medallists Nick Dempsey and Bryony Shaw the charity has this year raised over £50,000. This money is carefully allocated to different chosen cancer charities across research, education and support that W4CR believe make a difference.

£5,000 of the sum already raised will be presented to the John Hartson Foundation this Thursday at the Weymouth and Portland National Sailing Academy. John Hartson is a former Welsh international footballer best known for his spells with Arsenal and Celtic. In 2009 John revealed that he was facing treatment for testicular cancer.  Now, after the all clear, his main focus is to raise awareness of Testicular Cancer and how easy and most of all how important it is to check yourself on a regular basis.

Press are invited to attend the presentation where John Hartson will be present to receive the cheque and say a few words on what he is doing with his charity.  Nick Dempsey will also be present to talk about David and why he supports W4CR.
