Weymouth Cougars win the League

Weymouth Cougars Under 14 Sports team won the Dorset Youth League Under 14 Division 4 on Sunday even though almost all of the other teams still have a game to play. Their dominance of the leeague throughout the year has finally been confirmed but not without a momumental struggle against second place Wyke Victoria who have been snapping at the Cougars heals the whole season. Team Manager, Andy Parkes (right end of photo) has hed the difficult job of keeping the team focussed on the title and the job in hand each week, his efforts too have been rewarded and the team showed their thanks after the game by spraying him and assistant Glyn (left side of photo) with fizzy drinks in true champion fashion.

Sunday’s big game saw the first half very evenly battled but then super-sub Liam Hoole came on in the second half and within 10 minutes took a chance on a goalkeeper error that paid off allowing him to break the deadlock with the first goal.

Wyke came back strongly and punished Cougars for taking their foot off the pedal immediately after the openning goal and for a while the score stood at 1-1 until super winger Harry Honnor put in a long looping cross which found the net rather than a Cougar head, lucky you may say but he’s done it a few times during the season so maybe not!

At 2-1 Cougars the match went into a fury with attacks at both ends looking good until Cougars finally put the tie to bed when Tom Robbins took the ball in the centre of the pitch and passed it to Garth, he played a one two with Liam Hoole and then passed to his lerft where Jack Carroll was waiting to hammer the ball into the net for Cougars third goal in what was easily the best passing move of the match. Final result of 3-1 puts the Weymouth Cougars out of reach and with one week’s games left for the other teams in the league the table looks as shown below.
