The Weymouth and Portland National Sailing Academy To Host International Yachting Conference with Renowned Industry Speakers

Later this month the Weymouth and Portland National Sailing Academy (WPNSA) will host for the first time an International yachting conference.  The conference on April 23 aims to promote the sport of sailing and maritime culture through its key speakers from major yacht racing events.  WPNSA is fast becoming the international venue of choice for yacht racing events and is attracting some of the marine world’s key industry leaders to the South West who continue to develop the commercial side of the global industry.

Edward Leask, Chairman of the WPNSA, the venue for the sailing competition at the London 2012 Olympic Games and Paralympic Games, will introduce the international and regional speakers. There are numerous high-profile industry leaders set to speak at this exciting event including Maria Moynihan-Lee, who worked as part of the team at the Galway Experience that secured Galway as the finishing port for one of the greatest sailing events, the Volvo Ocean Race; Ian Dickens, who is Marketing Director at Clipper Ventures Plc and organiser of the Clipper Round the World Race; Sir Keith Mills, who formed TEAMORIGIN, the British America’s Cup Team; and finally Rod Carr, OBE ex Chief Executive of the Royal Yachting Association.

This diverse and pre-eminent list of speakers will discuss everything from national to international yachting events organising, potential ways to develop and expand such events and the potential changes and growth to the industry as a whole.

The WPNSA will provide the ideal venue to host the Conference as it is the venue for the sailing competition at the upcoming London 2012 Olympic Games and Paralympic Games, making it an extremely highly regarded and experienced venue for not only sailing but also non-sailing related conferences and events.

John Tweed, Chief Executive at the Weymouth and Portland National Sailing Academy comments, “We are delighted to be hosting our first ever International Yachting Conference with renowned key speakers from the world of premiere yachting events.  This is a natural progression for our award winning venue as it receives greater global attention for hosting premiere yachting events.  The Weymouth and Portland National Sailing Academy is well experienced in holding conferences on the maritime industry and we feel this conference will prove very informative to all those attending.” A few places have become available at this conference – if you wish to attend, please contact Rachel Sadler at the Academy on 01305 866025.
