SailLaser Raises Funds for Comic Relief’s £74 Million at the Weymouth and Portland National Sailing Academy

SailLaser hosted a Red Nose Day event on March 19 raising funds for the national BBC Comic Relief Charity.  The water based event held on the Weymouth and Portland National Sailing Academy site helped add to the £74 million that will assist charities across the UK and Africa.

With stunning Spring conditions sailors dressed in red fancy dress clothes over wetsuits taking to the water to mirror the charity’s colour theme, some even brought a friend to try sailing for free.  The Onboard Club and Race Club members as well as Weymouth College students sailed in the full range of LaserPerformance dinghies available year round from SailLaser on site at the Weymouth and Portland National Sailing Academy.

Participants were challenged to collect letters from each of the racing marks in Portland Harbour as they sailed round a fixed course with the aim of making a word on return to shore at the 2012 sailing venue.  The sailor with the longest word was the winner.

Jed Gravelle and Tommy O’Sullivan were officially the top fundraisers at SailLaser Weymouth collecting over £70.  Hannah Burywood, SailLaser Weymouth, commented, ‘it’s been great to see our regular sailors teaching their friends to sail, we hope to welcome them back to SailLaser Weymouth again soon’.

Money is still coming in from SailLaser Weymouth charity events which also included a cake sale at Weymouth and Portland, the current total is just over £1,500 and is set to climb.
