New gig rowing clubs have sprung up in nearby Sidmouth and Portland and BGRC have attended their launches in support. With established clubs also in Swanage, Weymouth and Lyme Regis the scene is set for an exciting Jurrassic Coast Gig Rowing League, which will all add to the regions legacy for the 2012 Olympics.

At Portland, the launch of their gig “Big Ope” culminated in a serious of short races which “Bucky Doo” took part in.

BGRC members also attended the launch of Sidmouths first gig,“We received a very warm welcome at Sidmouth, the heavens decided to open as the gig was being blessed (sounds familiar). The name of the gig was kept under wraps until the blessing. „Alma‟ is named after the bridge which is adjacent to the club building. We helped take the gig to the beach for launching and Debs was asked to be their Cox. Club members went out three times during the afternoon, after which we enjoyed some bubbly and cream tea. The Club is very enthusiastic and keen to forge links with local clubs, they are very in-terested in sharing knowledge and experiences”.
