Fire at Elwell Farm near Bridport

Three appliances from Bridport and Charmouth attended a fire at Higher Elwell Farm at around 14:00 on Bank Holiday Sunday. The fire was reported by two passing cyclists, who were praised by the fire brigade for their prompt action. When the appliances arrived the fire had taken hold of a small barn, causing several explosions as tractor tyres ignited and the roof collapsed. Using water drawn from a nearby lake the fire fighters managed to stop the blaze from spreading to nearby hay barns and horse stables. After damping down it could be seen that the barn had been completely destroyed, along with a vintage tractor, a shovel loader and other agricultural equipment, but thankfully no injury was suffered by either people or horses.
